My kid has gaps in milk teeth - Is it normal?
It is really a blessing to see your child grow. Dental health of kids is very important as part of their journey. As a practicing Dentist in Noida, I often hear queries about dental health about children from parents. One of the common queries is worry of parents by observing gaps in milk teeth.
We often notice large gaps between the milk teeth when they
start erupting at the age of 6 months to 2 years. These gaps are normal and
supposed to be there between the milk teeth. Milk teeth have a different
anatomy than the permanent teeth. Milk teeth are milky white in appearance and small in
size like pearls. When they start erupting in mouth at the age of 6 to 8 months
the jaw size is very small.
Permanent teeth start erupting at the age of 6 to 8 years in
children. Permanent teeth or adult teeth have a different anatomy and are
bigger in size. They erupt at the back side of the milk tooth. It is
due to the spaces present in between the milk teeth, jaws at the age the age of
6 to 8 years are able to accommodate the permanent teeth. If these spaces would
not have been there permanent teeth erupt out of the place and lead of mis-alignment of teeth.
